The Design Educates vol. 02 book showcases the best ideas of the design and architecture that provide an educational value. Designs presented inside are from the top submissions to the Design Educates Awards 2020. Learn more about the book and the awards: https://designeducates.com/
The Design Educates Awards (DEAwards) showcase those aspects of ideas and their realisations that transcend the projects’ mere physical attributes: for example, how design affects our sensitivities in the aesthetic, environmental, and societal realms. Ultimately, thus, we can learn vital lessons about a range of issues relating to our natural, built, and social environments.
The DEAwards have featured, among others: the Zheshui Natural Library (by LUO Studio) which was inspired by traditional construction methods and leans on the side of a mountain, minimizing the damage to the land; GoRolloe by Kristen Tapping, a bicycle wheel that filters outdoor air pollution using only the rider’s kinetic energy; Europe’s biggest green façade (eight kilometers of hornbeam hedges, consisting of over 30,000 plants) manifesting a ‘departure from the automotive era and a turn towards people-oriented planning’ in the Kö-Bogen II project in Düsseldorf by Ingenhoven Architects; Constellations by Futureforms, which is an immersive artwork connecting digital craft and cutting-edge fabrication with data visualizations inspired by phenomena found in nature; Cycling Through the Trees by Visit Limburg & Ward Segers, a cycle path 10m above the ground which winds between treetops giving the users a sensational experience of the Bosland forest in Belgium; in addition to many more inspiring and thought-provoking ideas.
